These records are from experimental trawls in New Caledonia between 1984 and 1990 (WANTIEZ L., 1992 Les poissons des fonds meubles du lagon Nord et de la Baie de St Vincent de Nouvelle Calédonie. Description des peuplements. Structure et fonctionnement des communautés. Thèse Doct. Université Aix-Marseille II : 444 p.). Several types of trawl nets were used (fish, shrimp and beam trawls). All species within a trawl were identified to the nearest taxonomic level available at that time. Changes in species names were later made according to Fricke et al. 2011 (Fricke R., Kulbicki M., Wantiez L. 2011 Checklist of the fishes of New Caledonia. Stuttgarter Beiträge zur Naturkunde A, Neue Serie 4: 341–463; Stuttgart, 30.IV.2011). Specimens are deposited at the MNHN in Paris and in the IRD local fish collection of Nouméa.

| 經費來源 | Most funding (>80%) came from IRD (at the time ORSTOM) on internal funds. Additional funding was provided by the local government of New Caledonia (through the program Zoneco) and a PhD scholarship was also provided by the local government for Mr. Laurent Wantiez to analyse this data |
| 研究區域描述 | Samples were performed in three different areas: 1- St Vincent Bay : a well protected bay approx. 50 km north of Noumea. The bay is approx. 20 km x 15 km. This bay is rather shallow (max depth 30 m) and comprises 2 entities, the north and the south bay. The north bay is very shallow (less than 15m) and heavily silted. The south bay is deeper and its bottom is made of slightly muddy sand with patches of clear sand or gravel. 2- the northern New Caledonia lagoon: the area is only sheltered by the barrier reef. The size of this lagoon is approx. 150 km x 40 km. Depth varies from 20 to 60m with an average around 35m. The bottoms are very varied ranging from hard flat rocky bottom to slightly muddy sand, and even some muddy areas near the mouth of the river Diahot. However a majority of the bottom are made of medium size grey sand. 3- Chesterfield: some trawling was performed in the Chesterfield and Landsdown areas, but we encountered many technical problems which considerably limited the catch. The bottom was mainly rocky with little sand or debris. |
| 研究設計描述 | In the bay of St Vincent there were first some exploratory trawls, mainly with shrimp trawls. The entire bay and its mouths were sampled with over 100 trawls. In 1989 monthly stations were set in the southern and northern bay. In the northern lagoon a first expedition explored thearea with approx. 100 trawls. Interesting signs of stocks of Amusium bailloti, a tropical scallop, were discovered. A second and third campaign were then made to estimate if the stock of this scallop could be important enough for a fishery. In the Chesterfield, only a limited number of trawls were made, because the bottoms were covered with large boulders of fossil coral which destroyed the trawl nets. |

- for each trawl the start and end position as well as start and ending time were recorded. For each trawl the catch was sorted per species and the weight and number of individuals were recorded for each species. New records were preserved in alcohol and sent to either the MNHN museum in Paris or kept in a local collection at IRD Noumea (New Caledonia).
